Why don't we outsource. Here's why.

I was recently discussing our manufacturing process with a customer, and he asked why we don’t outsource any aspect of our assembly or testing. The conversation highlighted an interesting trend in the industry generally – it is reasonably common for manufacturers to outsource in the name of streamlining processes and delivering to faster timescales.

I’ve always believed very strongly in Daco’s keep-it-simple, one-stop-shop approach – we engineer, assemble and test in house. And this is one of the reasons why we are the fastest hand controller company. We’re recognised for our fast turnaround times – we can do virtually all assembly and testing in just one working week, and there’s no way we could do that if we outsourced any of it. We don’t work in silos and there’s no juggling of multiple suppliers, which is a big contributor when it comes to speed.

This doesn’t just come into play for full custom builds. It also means we can send units into test programmes, make fit-form-function equivalents for drop-in replacement purposes, and provide rapid turnarounds for field repairs and upgrade requests. In short, we can provide a more flexible service.

But most importantly, the outsourcing question is about quality. Unless we’re directed otherwise, everything we do is to IPC J-STD-001 Class 3 – the highest (and only appropriate) standard for defence articles. The only way to ensure we maintain this standard is to have a close eye on every step of the process.

In short, Daco is about providing unrivalled speed, skill and service, and we achieve this by streamlining these critical elements in house.

We’re always happy to answer any questions about our manufacturing process, so please don’t hesitate to get in touch on +44 118 981 7311 (UK) or +1 248 982 3266 (US).
